Suitcase, Staircase, Showcase!

I loved being a part of the recent "Suitcase Showcase" at SPIGA on Florida Road!  What a great initiative by the iheart market!  The challenge - showcase your work as a small collection within a 1m size stall using suitcases! "Sip, savour and Shop" was the call of the day and I must say I loved sipping on my frozen Margarita chatting to customers and fellow exhibitors.

Look whose Back!

Let me squeeeeeeze in a quick 'happy New Year' before January slips past.  I have been gearing up for the year spring cleaning my studio, getting paperwork in order and pottering around my home tackling all the projects that I have been meaning to do for ages.  I also managed an appearance at the iheart market after a long sabbatical so all in all I am refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to GO!

Don't forget it's Market time again

Busy, busy, busy getting ready for a bumper market!  I am working on a table theme inspired by birds, bunnies, nests, eggs etc called FEATHERS & FUR!

Nature Table

I have decided to approach my stall at the IHEART MKT each month as a mini exhibition and do my display around a specific theme or concept.  I wanted to challenge myself to be inventive and to make sure that my customers see something new and exciting each month.

This month (March) my display was based on the idea of a NATURE TABLE, like "show and tell" at school.
It was fun being able to talk about my inspiration with folks and to put the whole look together.
Some old dried roots, a birds nest, horns and stone-shaped heart set the scene!

"Mmm...this reminds me of the nature table at school!"

What's the inspiration for APRIL... a little bunny says it's EASTER!

Some memories to celebrate iheart turning 3years

Here's a quick trip down memory lane with some pictures from lovely days at the market.  The iheart market has given me the opportunity not only to showcase and sell me art but to be a part of a remarkable community of talented and inspiring friends such a the darling Nadia from cupcake couture, my talented friends Rhenda and Nev from Ikhaya,  gorgeous (and crazy!) Lauren from Malva, Tash the multi-talented girl from the shack and the clever and sweet Wendy from ilovebokkie. Ok, so now I realise there are too many to mention by name so just come and see for yourself!
Trading in the dust just out the tent at DLI hall!

First market at Moses Mabhida - at the top grass.  Was so WINDY that I gave on a table and just laid my wares on the grass - which is like a green carpet I might add!

Red Eye Jomba event - setting up our wares on the street in the CBD at night!

Happppeee Birthdaaaay i heart market

So sweet, our wonderful market is turning 3 years old this month!  WOW how has it grown in 3 short years to be taking big steps at the magnificent Moses Mabidha stadium!  Congratulations to Anna and Saki for raising  such a gem!

iheart market - art in the dust!

Ok, so it wasn't quite "art on the grass" but my decision to leave the safety and comfort of the big marquee went well and the better light and bit more space was "baaie lekker!"  Here are some snaps I took on Saturday...

"Art on the Grass!"

Getting ready for iheart market tom... lot's of work to finish off!  I am bravely stepping out of the marquee to set up on the grass outside the tent to do a little "art on the grass" exhibition!  So don't look for me in my usual spot.  I am hoping a little more space to set up some easels and better light will make for an awesome display!  Will be under a gazebo for shade!  Hope to see you there!

I'll be bringing some paper protea's in various glass containers and bell jars!  Spring is here!

k-ching!

Thanks to Denise from "freshly found" for sending me these lovely pics of my stand at this months iheart market. I really like the one with the money coming out of the wallet and the smile on my face! Nothing like a sale to uplift the spirits. The purchase was the 2 birds on a branch in the foreground in brown charcoal. One of my fav's so glad to have a pic of it as momento!
Visit www.freshlyfound.blogspot.com for some vintage inpiration!

Cup cake competition

Sadly I was not able to attend the cupcake competition at the food market, but was more than happy to donate a prize. In keeping with the theme I donated a print of some cake doodles, but added a bit of colour wash to the print to make it more festive.
Some lovely prizes were donated and I believe it was a huge success!

Robot Friend

This little robot was made by my son at a fair and sits on my studio table.
The drawings pictured here were inspired by his creation and I was thrilled when they sold at the recent iheart market. I hope they are happy in their new home and putting a smile on someone's face!

This little piggy goes to market...

I am all packed and ready for the market! I love being at the market and especially value feedback and comments from people looking at my work and catching up with other talented and creative people.
