Birds seem to have such a dream like and ethereal quality so it has not suprised to me to discover that in some cultures they are a symbol of immortality! They live between the earth and the sky so are seen to link heaven and earth. Different kinds of birds
have their own specific symbolic associations, such as the dove is a symbol of peace.
The owl is a associated with wisdom and insight but also can be linked to death and darkness. The nightingale is associated with love and longing. I am fascinated with the idea of the owl reflecting both death and wisdom - the contrast of light and dark.
I am intrigued by things that seem to be paradoxical!
I like the idea of a kind of sombre dark beauty!
